Zero-waste Industrial oil dispenser

Sanjay Tools and Adhesives is a leading industrial supplier across India. Their customer base includes factories that require machine oil in large quantities. The oil is manually dispensed as required instead of one-time use. A standard Jerry can is popularly used and its drawbacks are often overlooked.

These cans are bulky (minimum 30-60 ltr capacity) and have to be tilted to pour out a smaller quantity. This process is strenuous, causing spillage. It is inefficient as the last liter of oil is almost always left unused.

The design challenge was to simplify dispensing and save oil, without compromising the logistic ease.

We have featured a sturdy faucet to control the oil flow. The second intervention is in the form of the can. Inspired by a worker’s ingenious quick-fix, we created a protrusion on the outer surface of the can to rest it in a tilted position. Now, we have a stacking position that is the upright and dispensing position that is tilted. 

One has to lift and keep the can in dispensing position just once and pour out the oil using the sturdy faucet. The tilted position helps dispense the entire quantity of oil thus avoiding wastage. We have achieved this efficient functionality at a very nominal cost.

A few prototypes and several tests confirmed that our design has hit the perfect note.

A group of expeditioners were required to carry petroleum on their journey to Leh & Ladakh and decided to test our design. Cantap was safe, spill-proof, and proved efficient in every way!
